HiHZim interventions empower Bulilima women

Hand in Hand Zimbabwe (HiHZim) interventions have positively transformed the lives of 10 women from Ward 3, in Bulilima district.

The women, who previously struggled to make ends meet, successfully set up a poultry production enterprise after undergoing business management training in 2019.

“The training we received from Hand in Hand Zimbabwe greatly aided us, as we managed to start a lucrative business.

“The money we constantly generate from this project goes a long way in providing basic necessities for our families.

“This has helped us to eliminate the hard grip poverty which was upon our families,”, Esther Ncube (47), a group member said.

In 2020, Hand in Hand Zimbabwe decided to further capacitate the group after realising its potential.

The organisation provided the group with 300 day-old chicks, chicken feed and equipment, including building material to construct a fowl run among other things.

“HHZ taught us how to run a business and we are now businesswomen. Before meeting HHZ, we used to keep 50 birds at a time but now we have increased our capacity to between 100 and 150,” Regina Ncube, the group chairperson, said.

“We have now achieved self-sustenance and no longer depend on our husbands for money,” she added.

After every six weeks, the group makes an average of R8 700 from the poultry project.  They sell their chickens to the local community, a butchery and a supermarket in Plumtree town.

With their main enterprise being poultry production, the group is also into goat production as well as Marula jam production.
